The Consumer Technology Association will require proof of vaccination to attend CES 2022 in Las Vegas in January. In a statement Tuesday, the association said it is also assessing whether proof of a positive antibody test—showing that someone previously had COVID-19 and has developed immunity—could be an alternative requirement to the vaccine.

CES is one of the largest association-produced trade shows in the U.S., with total attendance in 2020 of more than 170,000 people.
"Based on today's science, we understand vaccines offer us the best hope for stopping the spread of COVID-19," CTA CEO Gary Shapiro said. "We all play a part in ending the pandemic through encouraging vaccinations and implementing the right safety protocols."
CTA also noted that a digital event will be held alongside the in-person event if people cannot make it to Las Vegas.
The National Grocers Association also announced Tuesday that all participants in its upcoming Las Vegas show must provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test. NGA said its board of directors unanimously approved the policy. Testing services will be available on site.
"Just as each of you has played a part in leading the food industry during this pandemic, we are committed to doing our part to ensure our industry can come together safely in person September 19-21 and have a successful NGA Show!" the association said.
The announcements came as cities such as New York and San Francisco have begun requiring proof of vaccination before people can enter restaurants or attend large events. Nevada currently requires people to wear masks at large indoor gatherings, although Gov. Steve Sisolak recently said Las Vegas can carve out exceptions if event organizers can show their attendees are vaccinated, according to the Associated Press.
New Orleans, site of the Produce Marketing Association's upcoming Fresh Summit, also requires people attending large events to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test. In a video, CEO Cathy Burns said that while PMA cannot guarantee the requirements will still be in place when the event is held in October, attendees should keep them in mind and plan accordingly, according to the industry news site The Packer.
A few associations have canceled upcoming events as a result of the recent surge in new COVID cases in the U.S. The latest is the Consumer Bankers Association, which originally planned to hold CBA LIVE in Orlando. The conference was being held virtually Aug. 16-17 instead.
